HOME TO BOUNDLESS CREATVITY

When I signed my first record deal with Universal ten years ago, you can bet I was beyond excited.

My assumption was that the biggest record label on the planet would equal the most exciting and innovative ideas on the planet..but the reality was a snail paced workflow and lack lustre, uninspired results.

This phenomenon wasn’t isolated just to the recording label however, and was a pattern I saw over and over again across the industries I moved about in.

The core problem I identitied was excessive compartmentilsation :

Communication barriers : a lack of information sharing

Conflict between departments : different priorities and goals and competition for resources

Lack of cross-functional knowledge : a lack of understanding or appreciation of the other deparments and the broader context of the work

Rigidity : An inability to be reactive or flexible 

MY SOLUTION WAS TO LEARN EVERYTHING ABOUT MY BUSINESS SO I COULD EFFECTIVELY LEAD A TEAM WITHOUT RUNNING INTO THESE ISSUES.

I LEARNED how TO WRITE AND PRODUCE MUSIC WHICH LED TO OVER 130 MILLION STREAMS, MAJOR TV AND FILM PLACEMENTS AND CRITICAL ACCLAIM.

I LEARNED HOW TO SHOOT, EDIT AND DIRECT VIDEOS WHICH LED TO an international FILM AWARD, film festival selections, DIRECTING a NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR a GLOBAL BRAND AND BEING CHAMPIONED BY EMMY AWARD WINNING WRITER AND FILM PRODUCER LENA WAITHE.

i learned how to tell stories, sell tickets and courses, engage an audience AND go viral with against the grain content, WHICH GAVE ME CREATIVE AUTONOMY, BUILT COMMUNITY and ALLOWED ME TO INVEST IN PROPERTY while TRAVELling THE WORLD DOING WHAT I LOVE.

OVER A DECADE AFTER LEAVING THE RECORD LABEL, ALL OF THESE experiences HAVE PROVIDED the foundation and ethos FOR asabi, AN ARTIST LED CREATIVE AGENCY WHERE THE ATTENTION IS DETAILED, THE APPROACH IS HOLISTIC AND THE VISION IS CLEAR.
